Birds Of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
By Sophia Fineza
Anyone who says that Birds Of Prey is the worst DCEU movie must be confused or forgot about the existence of Suicide Squad. That being said, Birds of Prey isn’t even CLOSE to the bottom of the list. It has a great combination of action, comedy, and feminism. A lot of people probably brushed this one off or had a biased opinion about it because they thought it was purely pushing a feminist agenda (we love toxic masculinity!). It was presented in a way that wasn’t so in your face, which is something the industry has struggled with for a while. Sure, maybe the violence and language could be a bit….much, but it made for a really fun watch. It was inspiring and relatable to see Harley at rock bottom and then build a name for herself, outside of being just the Joker’s girlfriend. I also love the cinematography in this movie. The color schemes and lighting, especially in the amusement park scene, are beautiful. Full of loose morals and bright colors, Birds Of Prey is a compelling and crazy movie that’ll leave you feeling powerful as hell.
logline: After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

My Favorite Characters:
Margot Robbie as Harley (f*cking) Quinn - oh my god she is the most bada*s woman ever. kind of what i want to be when i grow up, minus being a criminal of course. i love how crazy she is, but that she also has a soft side. her relationship with cassandra is so cute, and i can’t wait to see what she does next in the DCEU.
Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis - i love this man. ewan mcgregor is such a legend and played sionis incredibly well. sionis is such a sassy boy and definitely one of the best movie villains i’ve seen in a while. he’s not too “unrealistic” with his villain goals, unlike other comic book villains (yeah, good luck taking over a whole city). i also love reading all the theories about how he and zsasz are in love/dating. they definitely were.
This movie is rated R. Here’s why:
Extreme Violence and Gore
Language
Alcohol and Drug Use
Intense Scenes
Something I liked: the soundtrack is honestly pretty great. listening to it alone in your room while dancing around makes you feel like a pretty bad b*tch. not that i would know anything about that.
Fun Fact: Jurnee Smollett (Black Canary) does her own singing throughout the film.
