The Perks of Being a Wallflower
By Sophia Fineza
If you’re trying to cry, you should 100% watch this movie. No spoilers here, but it’s really emotional. I like how Charlie shifts from a socially awkward kid to this confident guy that had close friends to rely on. However, I also love that the movie shows the dark side of moving from the sidelines into the limelight so quickly. Perks discusses topics that were kind of “taboo” at that time, such as mental illness and sexual assault and the movie was a great adaptation of the book, staying true to the source material, which a lot of movie adaptations have trouble doing. Overall, this movie was incredibly moving and I would recommend it to anyone that may be going through a tough time in their life.
logline: Charlie has always been socially awkward. Most of his life has been spent living in the shadows of his more popular older sister and classmates. However, in the beginning of his freshman year, Charlie finds himself taken under the wing of two well-liked seniors, Sam and Patrick. For the first time in his life, he has real friends, and they show him how life can bring happiness, but also bring pain.
My favorite characters:
Emma Watson as Sam Dutton - emma watson is MAJESTIC in this movie. her character was so happy and carefee, and she really helped charlie break out of his shell. she also has bomb taste in music :)
Logan Lerman as Charlie Kelmeckis - the most adorable person ahhh. i LOVED his character development throughout the movie, and logan lerman was just overall amazing in this role.
Ezra Miller as Patrick Dutton - the literal star of the show!!! he was so funny and i loved his character’s one liners. i also loved how he wasn’t in the story purely for comedy’s sake and how especially toward the end of the movie he helped charlie be himself.
