Euphoria
By Sophia Fineza
euphoria was such an intense show. The amount of information and layers to each specific character is just monumental. Zendaya portrays someone struggling with addiction in such an amazing and true way even though it’s something new for her. The show itself is just so extreme and different because the violence and drug use and sex that’s shown in the series never cuts away from these acts, whereas other teen shows might mention it but not actually show it on screen. This is important because it’s really true to real life, and I think the directors, producers, and cinematographers wanted to depict genuine high school reactions to such things. They always keep the cameras on the subject, and it’s not just for the shock factor.
logline: euphoria follows a group of high schoolers as they explore the worlds of drugs, sexuality, and violence.
My favorite characters:
Angus Cloud as Fezco - breaking the stereotype of “drug dealers are scary” everywhere. literally the most adorable guy everrrr.
Sydney Sweeny as Cassie Howard - cassie was so interesting to watch and see develop. from the way she maintained her image to her relationship with mckay, she was just such a complex and different character than you would see in a typical high school show.
Zendaya as Rue Bennett - with her performance in this, you’d think all zendaya has ever done was play this kind of role. she did such an amazing job with showing the truth of addiction and relapses.
Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn - finally! a transgender main character! jules’s story was so heartbreaking, but told so well.
